2006 CAPTAIN’S LOG AND END OF THE YEAR REPORT

EMERALD COAST PARROT HEAD CLUB

Another year has gone by and we are in our 6th year.  We continue to carry out the “Party with a Purpose” attitude with a total of $17,658.01 paid out to various charities, including a number of local charities.   Our membership has decreased some with a total of 545 members reported as of year end.  We started out the year as the 3rd largest club in the world of approximately 240 clubs in over 10 countries around the world.  Let’s continue to let our family, friends and the entire community know that we are more than just a “Social Club” and that we really do make an impact in our local community.

April – 1st Annual Chili Cook Off to benefit Relay for Life - Raised $2,156 to go towards the total funds raised for Relay for Life.   Event included 12 chili entries with 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners, along with a silent auction.

May – Derby Party - Raised $1,000 for our scholarship fund.

May - American Cancer Society Relay for Life - We started out the year with a fund raising campaign for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life.  With all of your support in both time and donations, we were the top sponsor during the 2006 Relay For Life in Destin with over $5,000 raised and donated over 500 man-hours for the cause.

July – Covenant Hospice – We collected and donated $1,000 for this cause, along with 10 man-hours answering phones at the Cablethon.

August - Emerald Coast Poker Run - Provided 580 man hours and donated $3,382.01 to the Emerald Coast Foundation in support of the Boy’s and Girls Clubs in the local area.

September – Covenant Hospice Walk to Remember – a couple of our members walked to raise funds for this worthwhile event.

October –PHIP Parrot Heads in Need Fund - Raised $440.00 in donations for a drawing to a Buffett concert in Las Vegas.  Once again, of the entire Parrot Head Nation, our club sold the 2nd winning ticket, won by a member of our own club.  Rick Hausen won $500.00 cash, a Personalized Signed Item from Jimmy Buffett, 2 Corona Beach Chairs & Umbrella, a Margaritaville Tequila Mirror, Golf Shirt and Hat.  Way to go, Rick!

November – Families First Network/Lakeview Foundation - The members of our club sponsored over 60 displaced foster children and helped them to have a happier holiday considering their family situations.  The club donated $500 to the Network to use toward children who were not sponsored by anyone else during the holiday season.

December – Salvation Army Angel Tree  - Sponsored a family of 5 children by donating the items on their Christmas Wish List and helped them have a Christmas they would not have been able to have otherwise.
December – Destin Christmas Parade - Over 20 parade walkers participated in the annual Destin Parade and passed out beads to thousands of families located along the Mile Plus parade route.

December – End of the year donations include:
  • S.O.C.K.S. (Save Our Cats & Kittens Inc)– No-Kill Cat Shelter - $1,000.00 (this shelter was close to closing down due to lack of funding – with our donation along with a large personal donation from a citizen, and numerous other donations, the shelter was able to stay open).
  • Salvation Army Empty Stocking Fund  - $2,000 (support under-privileged families in the local community)
  • VFW Post 11367– Operation Uplift (phone cards funds for troops overseas) - $1,500.00
  • Feline Friends- $300.00
  • Airport Animal Clinic – $500.00
  • Emerald Coast Wildlife Refuge – $1,000.00
  • Emerald Coast Golden Retriever Rescue- $500.00
2006 went out with a blast with our annual New Year’s Eve Party at Fudpucker’s attended by nearly 90 of the finest members ever!

I want to personally thank our members for a great 2006, and I look forward to a fun and prosperous 2007 for our club and its members.
